This is a blog about feeling feelings, mourning, living artfully, and being a human whose life is ever-ending.
I write from a personal point of view, where I share my own thoughts and artwork. I made my start in this field fulfilling the therapist-as-a-blank-slate fantasy, but that did not work for me. I will, at times, ask challenging questions that might not have easy answers. Some of my entries will include creative experiments for you to engage with, if you wish. As you read what I offer, ready yourself to hear about and think about death. I ask that you gift yourself with openness and patience as you consider your own mortality, as well as your creativity.
Consider that, no matter your level of skill, your entire life is your greatest work of art. Consider that, whether you’re aware of it or not, you’ve been weaving a tapestry this whole time. Consider that every relationship you have is a storybook filled with vivid illustrations. It doesn’t have to be pretty. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be.
A few important disclaimers — please read before engaging
First, let me say that I had a Dickinsonian love for the em dash before ChatGPT co-opted it! This blog is exclusively written by me, meaning that nothing here has been produced by AI. All the images used for cover art and within each entry were made by me, unless otherwise credited.
These writings are not therapeutic intervention and are not meant to replace therapeutic care. If you are struggling with your mental health and are needing support, I urge you to find an individual therapist. If you are in a crisis or emergency situation, please seek emergency support by calling a local crisis line, texting 741741 or calling 988.
I acknowledge that what I describe in this blog is not universal, meaning that what is written here cannot be applied to each person and each situation. I will represent my own experience as much as I can, knowing that I leave out that which I cannot speak to. I expect you to have your own moral, political, idealogical, and spiritual views and beliefs. I speak not from a place of being “the expert” and more so as a fellow human being having emotions, responding to the world, and figuring it all out. If we can, let us please show each other kindness and options that exist outside of the binary right-or-wrong.
